Are You A Figure Skater?

Laurel Springs Customized Programs Provide Continuity for School Age Skaters

Our flexible study options have helped make us the number one choice for figure skaters. By working with each student Tanitah Belbin individually and by providing quality teacher support, we help make academic study on the go a manageable and positive experience.

We work with each family to maintain ongoing communication in a form that is convenient and comfortable for you. Laurel Springs' teachers and staff work closely with parents, coaches, and students, so that they can connect with us from anywhere in the world -- through the Internet or by fax, phone or mail. Our goal is to ensure that each student's' coursework progresses without interruption whenever possible -- no matter how hectic schedules may become.

I go to Laurel Springs because not only is it a great school, but it is perfect for my busy skating lifestyle. The teachers and administrators are great people and are very accommodating with my skating schedule and my traveling to competitions. I've been enrolled in Laurel Springs since 9th grade and now I'm in 11th grade. I've loved being a student of Laurel Springs High School and have learned a great deal with the courses I've taken. It is a wonderful school. When you graduate in the 12th grade, you have a cap and gown graduation ceremony and a prom to go to. I can't wait!

Serving Aces On and Off Court

Tennis Player Laurel Springs' students, Kirsten Flower, Alexa Glatch, and Amy Simidian are combining education and athletics by attending Laurel Springs School, a K-12 Distance Learning Program, while training, practicing, and competing. The combination appears to be a winning one. Alexa Glatch and Amy Simidian took titles in the Girls 14 and Girls 12 Singles Divisions at the 2005 Easter Bowl, one of the four top junior tennis tournaments in the nation. Fifteen-year old Kirsten Flower avenged a loss in the 2004 Girls 16 Final of the Ojai Tennis Tournament by taking the 2005 Girls 18 Singles title, 7-6, 6-1. The Ojai Tennis Tournament is the oldest amateur tennis tournament in the Western United States. Past champions include Arther Ashe, Lindsey Davenport, Pete Sampras, and Camarillo's Bryan twins, currently the top-ranked doubles team in the ATP.

Time for Ballet

Joining Laurel Springs School was the best decision I ever made. This school gave me the academic challenges and flexible schedule for ballet that I just couldn't get in a traditional school. I was able to expand my ballet training and reach levels I never knew I could reach. Laurel Springs has given me the confidence I need to succeed both academically and in ballet. I feel that I am ready to go do anything in the world knowing I have a great education.

For Alex Artemov and his parents, a flexible school schedule means more time to spend together on their shared passion for gymnastics.

School of Choice: The home-school program

Gymnast Earlier this year, the Kurt Thomas Gymnastics Training Center introduced its home-school program. Kurt created this unique opportunity for selected athletes to maximize the time available for their training while providing them with an outstanding education, increased flexibility and control of their time, and a mandatory rest time each day. The current home-school team is made up of 7 athletes, levels 8-10, who train 7 hours a day in divided sessions. They attend school in a classroom on site at the center and have a separate sleep room.

The school is led by Lori Johnston, a former teacher and parent who has home-schooled both of her children. Under her care and expert guidance, the girls who range from 5th - 7th grade, have amazed their coaches and parents with their results.

The athletes are pursuing a curriculum developed by the private school, Laurel Springs out of Ojai, California. This fully accredited program (accredited by Western Association of Schools and Colleges) specializes in independent study and distance learning. It is one of the finest programs available in the country and is utilized by athletes, actors and students around the world.

With this program, each girl's curriculum has been developed to meet her needs and learning style. Plus, in addition to Mrs. Johnston, the girls also have a teacher in California, Ms. Harlie Lesniak, with whom they communicate daily by e-mail, phone and mail.

One of the good things about Laurel Springs is that when you do a sport you are rather busy and Laurel Springs can make it possible for you to do your sport and travel. With public schools you have to worry about missing days, making up for them, absents and so forth. With this awesome program you are basically free to study at your own pace. Thanks so much Laurel Springs for making my sport easier.
